Nurses who are interested in dermatology and medical aesthetics, understanding how to practise safely and within professional and legal boundaries is essential. While aesthetic nursing can be a rewarding area of practice, it carries specific responsibilities that require ongoing education, reflection, and strong clinical governance.

On Saturday, February 7th, the Dermatology Aesthetic Nurses Association Ireland (DANAI) will host an Education and Information CPD Day at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dublin Airport. This event is open to registered nurses and midwives and provides 6 NMBI recognised CPD points. Join here.

One of the focuses of the day is on compliance, patient safety, and professional responsibility within aesthetic nursing. These areas are central to safe practice but are not always covered in depth. DANAI education days aim to address this gap by offering structured, relevant learning delivered by experienced clinicians and legal professionals.

One presentation will explore clinical governance, patient safety, and legal responsibilities in aesthetic nursing. Led by Brian Ormond of DAC Beachcroft Solicitors, the session will examine professional accountability, legal considerations, and the management of complications within an aesthetic nursing setting. It will provide nurses with a clearer understanding of their responsibilities when practising independently or within a clinic environment.

Later in the afternoon, attention will turn to aesthetic clinic documentation and legal compliance. Anna Gunning, Cosmed Aesthetic Training Academy, RGN, will discuss the documentation standards required to support patient safety, staff governance, and regulatory compliance. This session is particularly relevant for nurses working in aesthetic clinics where clear policies, accurate records, and defined governance structures are essential.

The final session of the day will focus on emergency medications and clinical audit, delivered by Dr Lisa Cunningham, Dr Lisa Academy Mayo, Consultant in Emergency Medicine. This presentation will review current considerations around emergency preparedness and present an audit of Botulinum Toxin administration within a clinically governed system. The session reinforces the importance of audit as part of everyday slinic and patient safety practice in medical aesthetics.

Attending a DANAI event is part of exploring whether aesthetic nursing is the right professional pathway for you,a s you may be considerign a career change. DANAI provides networking opportunities with three in person events per year, and professional support for nurses at different stages of their medical aesthetic journey.

This DANAI Education Information CPD day is the first in a series of educational content focusing on compliance, governance, and professional standards within aesthetic nursing. A subsequent blog will explore clinical and practical aspects of practice in more detail.
